The Art of Conversations with Potential Clients

Have you ever been innocently scrolling Instagram, then open up your DMs to find a message that literally makes you cringe? 

We’ve all been there - getting a cold DM from someone pitching a program that we know nothing about and have never even heard of before. 

Here’s the thing - there was a day and age where cold messaging and cold pitching really worked. It was a reliable, usable strategy that converted. 

So what’s changed? 

We’re all seeking connection - we don’t inherently want to be sold to. We want to know, like and trust the people we’re buying from. We want to feel inspired by their work. 

The next time you see someone that you feel would be a perfect fit for one of your offers - start slow. Imagine it almost like dating. 

  • Use their first name when you message them - personalization is Queen 
  • Take a look through their content & see if there is anything that sticks out to you - if it does, make sure to bring that up in conversation and complement them. Everyone loves to be complimented
  • Send a voice note explaining that you’re messaging because you loved something on their page and you’re looking forward to connecting with them more

If you’re having a conversation with someone and they start to tell you about a problem they’re having - that would be a good time to consider a segue into your offers. 

Whatever you do, do not cold pitch people on social media. Establish those connections, make sales when the timing is right, and most of all do what feels good. When you deliver amazing work or services to people after a natural connection, then a sale, word gets around about how amazing you are and your business will inevitably grow.
